2011 Scholarship Winners

After careful consideration, the Scholarship committee recommended that the annual $5,000 Academic Scholarship be shared in 2011.  The board of directors agreed and Triathlon Ontario is pleased to announce that both Joanna Brown and Lionel Sanders will each receive a cheque for $2,500.

The Academic Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2003 to a member who is still attending school but who has a realistic expectation of impacting on the international stage.  The funds may be used to offset education expenses such as tuition, books or residence fees. The scholarship is intended to support the continued education of Ontario's dedicated High Performance athletes and to relieve some of the financial pressure they experience while they continue to attend school and train.  Past winners include Jessica Kirkwood, Colin Jenkins, Kyle Jones, Dorelle Hinton, Alexander Hinton and Andrew Yorke.

Joanna Brown, the Bronze Medalist at the 2010 Junior World Championship and a member of Triathlon Canada's Development Team, hails from Carp and will be attending the University of Guelph in the 2011 season.

Lionel Sanders, is one of Ontario's most promising long course triathletes and will be attending McMaster University this fall.

Good luck to both of these incredible individuals.
