Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does paying a one-day fee make me a member?
A: No, payment of a one-day fee only provides you with insurance coverage for the one race you have entered. It does not make you a Triathlon Ontario member.
Q. Do I have to be a member to eligible for Ontario Championships?
A: Anyone may race in Ontario championships, however you must be a full member prior to the race to win an award.
Q. How is my age group determined?
A: The age group you race in is determined by your age at December 31 of the current year.
Q. Does Triathlon Ontario cover me if I'm racing out-of-province?
A: It can. Many countries will not accept your Triathlon Ontario coverage and will require you to purchase day of race coverage. It's best to call the office so we can address your particular situation.
Q. How do I get an event or club sanctioned by Triathlon Ontario?
Q. How can I become a certified triathlon coach in Ontario?

Q. How can I race if I'm a paratriathlete?
A: Please check the ITU Competition Rules for categories , the classification process and paratriathlete rules. Race directors make every effort to include all groups but some courses are not easily adapted. Paratriathletes are strongly advised to contact the race director prior to entry and discuss individual requirements with them.
Q. How can I become a triathlon official in Ontario?
A: We hold a training once or twice a year, if interested, email technical@triathlonontario.com
Q. Where can I find penalty listings after a race?
A: Penalities assessed on course are listed on a violation report which is posted on the results board at the end of the race. From time to time "irregularities" are noted by the timers and DQ's will show on the electronic results.
Q. If I was penalized at a race, can I appeal it?
A: Only certain violations can be appealed - judgement calls may not. Judgement calls include drafting, blocking or centre line infractions. Appeals must be made to the head official made within 15 minutes of your race finish. Appeals lodged after that time are not accepted.
Q. When can I use a wetsuit?
A: See the chart in the Competition rules for specifics. For age group participation races the wetsuit rules are often relaxed. Any elite, provincial championship or qualification race will follow the guidelines strictly.
Q. Where do I wear my bib number during a race?
A: If you have a race belt, the proper form is to wear your race number at your back for the bike, and swing it around to the front for the run. If you are pinning your race number on, you may wear it on the front for the entire race.
Q. What doesn't Triathlon Ontario do?
A:We are not race directors, meaning we don't control or decide things such as race venues, courses, or weather.
