SUMMARY:Ontario Indoor Triathlon - Race # 1 - February 22
DESCRIPTION:Indoor Triathlon\nIndoor triathlons are a great way to try the sport of triathlon in a safe\, fun\, welcoming way. The swim is in a pool\, the bike portion is on a stationary bike and the run is on an indoor track. Indoor tris are also inexpensive – all you need to race is a swimsuit\, goggles\, t-shirt and running shoes. \nThe indoor race format is simple: swim as many laps as possible in 15 minutes\, ride as many kilometres as possible in 15 minutes\, and run as many laps around the track as possible in 15 minutes. The farther you go\, the more points you score. \nParticipants have the option to choose their start time\, subject to availability. Registration is open to anyone 12 years of age and up. \n  \n  \n  \n\nSeries Standings\nOnce compiled\, series standings will be posted here. \n\n  \nRegistration\nJoin us by registering here! Triathlon Ontario members get a discount\, but everyone is welcome! \nAthletes can race on their own at 12\, and as part of a relay at 10. Like most sports\, that means the athlete’s age as of December 31. (So if you’re 11 but you’ll be 12 before December 31\, you are good to race on your own.) \n \n  \n\n\n  \nParking & Directions\nThe Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre located at 875 Morningside Ave\, Toronto\, ON M1C 0C7\, just south of the 401. \nParking is available on both sides of the building for free for 2 hours or $5 for all day. More info: tpasc.ca/facility/location \n  \nCheck In\nWhen entering the building head towards the south end\, near the Tim Horton’s and front desk. There will be a check in table.  You can then head down stairs to the change rooms and then on deck. \nThere will be plenty of water available but if you require food\, snacks or other nutrition\, please make your own arrangements. \n  \nVolunteer\nIf you would like to volunteer for a couple of hours we always need lap counters and cheering support crew and would love to have you. \nVolunteers can register simply by sending an email to technical@triathlonontario.com. \n  \nRace Format\nThe race consists of a 15-minute lap swim\, a 15-minute stationary bike\, and a 15-minute track run. \n  \nSwim Format\n \nThe competition pool is on the lower floor. There will be a maximum of two swimmers per lane. Swim caps are not required for this event. \nA lap counter will record the number of laps for the 15 minutes. Be sure to find your lane and assigned lap counter as soon as the previous wave exits\, give them your score card\, and be in the water to start the race on time. \nOn the start signal\, swim as many lengths as you can\, keeping to your side of the lane for safety. \nAt the finish signal\, the lap counter will score you a half-lap if you made it halfway. \nOnce finished\, quickly exit the water\, get your completed score card\, and head for the bike. We recommend wearing a swimsuit or trisuit for the whole thing so you don’t have to change. Athletes will have a 10-minute transition time to get out of the water\, towel off\, put on shoes and cycling/running clothing and move to the track. This is a very tight timeline. \n  \nBike Format\n \nSpin bikes are located next to the track. \nGetting yourself on a spin bike and getting the proper set up is included in the 10-minute transition time from the pool. This is a tight timeline – you need to exit the pool fast and be ready to get on your bike\, adjust\, and be ready to start. The starter will start on time so please be quick and efficient. \nTorso covering is required on the bike – sports bras / crop tops are allowed. \nThe spin bikes do have SPD clips so if you have that type of cycling shoe\, you are more than welcome to use them. \nPoints will be awarded based on the distance traveled in 15 minutes. You may set the tension of the spin bike to whatever you feel most comfortable. The bikes do increase the distance based on the power generated\, so be sure to balance the tension for the most efficient pedaling. \nOnce the timer says stop\, please stop pedaling as best you can in a safe manner. Once time is up\, a volunteer will record your distance traveled. \nYou will then have a 10-minute transition time to move to the other side of the run track. \n  \nRun Format\n \nThe run takes place on the indoor track. There will be a maximum of 18 people in a heat. \nTorso covering is required on the run – sports bras / crop tops are allowed. \nIt is important that you are on time and ready when the previous wave is completed. As soon as a lap counter becomes available\, find one to take your scorecard – but don’t hit the track yet! Stop and get to know your lap counter. Get their name and make sure they know yours. Point out anything bright or memorable you’re wearing. The idea is to ensure they see you come by on every lap. \nThe run starts in a bunch but will soon spread out. Please run on the inside lane and pass to the outside. Be aware of visually impaired runners who may be tethered to a guide. \nEach time you pass the lap counters\, make sure you get your lap counter’s attention and say your name. Lap counters are often trying valiantly to count several athletes at once and it’s not easy. Give them a wave and call them by name\, then say yours – that’s how you make sure all their laps are counted. Lap counting errors are not correctable after the fact. \nAt the end of the run\, you’ll get warnings with around two minutes to go. You’ll get half points if you complete half a lap\, no now’s the time to check your pace so you score maximum points – ideally crossing the lap or half-lap points just before the clock runs out. \n  \nRelays\nYour team captain registers your team name and chooses a wave for your team. Team members must register\, choosing the team and “relay team member” on registration. \nIMPORTANT: Only one member per team choose a swim time. EVEN MORE IMPORTANT: Make sure one team member does choose a swim time! \nRelay team members are welcome to be on the pool deck and the track to cheer. \nYou can freely pick who will do swim\, bike\, and run. There’s no need to register a particular member for each. You can even be a team member for more than one team\, providing you’re racing at different times. \n  \nScoring\nSwim – score 20 points per 50 metres\, 10 points for 25m\, half lengths at end time scored at the discretion of the lap counter. \nBike – score 50 points per km. \nRun – score 25 points per lap\, 13 points awarded for a half lap\, at the discretion of the lap counter. \nTies – Ties in total points awarded to the athlete having the faster run\, then if required the faster bike. Absolute ties (all 3 scores the same) scored as ties. \n  \nCategories\nThe categories for the event will be U19 (19 and under)\, 20-29\, 30-39\, 40-49\, 50+\, Relays. \n  \nNotes\n\nWave and lane assignments will be on the start list made available the Friday before race weekend.\nBecause wave and lane assignments will not be final until registration closes the Thursday before race day\, we are unable to make wave or lane assignment changes.\nWave choice is not guaranteed. Please be early and prepared to switch waves. Do not attempt to make complex plans based on being in a particular wave. We cannot guarantee that athletes will be in the same wave or adjacent lanes.\nAdditional waves will be opened if existing waves are filled.\nPlease note that wave start times are actual gun times – please be on deck well in advance of your wave start time.\nRace emails are sent using Mailchimp. Please ensure you are subscribed to emails from Triathlon Ontario.\n\n  \n

The starter will start on time so please be quick and efficient. The spin bikes do have SPD clips so if you have that type of cycling shoe\, you are more than welcome to use them. \nPoints will be awarded based on the distance traveled in 15 minutes. SUMMARY:HEAL GFGF Utah Triathlon Training Camp
DESCRIPTION:Join coaches Kevin McCormick and Tara Postnikoff for a week of training in the iconic setting of St George\, Utah! This is the location of the St George 70.3 and hosted the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2022. The scenery is spectacular with red mountain backdrops and blue skies. The pavement is beautiful and the terrain is challenging. St George Utah is situated at about 800m of elevation in an arid desert. Temperatures in late April average mid 20s during the day\, and low teens at night. \nThe main focus of the camp is cycling yet we will also have coached swims and some runs in the schedule. There will be an opportunity for open water swimming in the Sand Hollow Reservoir. Ride durations are in the 3-4 hour range\, so focused on long course (70.3 or longer) athletes\, or those just looking to gain more early season volume. It’s a great way to get a boost in fitness prior to the Canada outdoor season. \nWe are limiting the camp to 12 athletes so we have a great coach to athlete ratio offering you a personalized approach. In past years we had group dinners where each house prepped a meal for the group. It provided a great chance to debrief on the day and have triathlon related discussions. \nRecommended Arrival on April 26 and departure weekend of May 4 (we have a full day of training on the 3rd).\nCamp Fees: \n*Air fare\, travel\, food and accommodations are not included in the camp fee. \nTentative schedule (coached swims\, bikes and runs) \nSaturday- Arrival and bike set up. Group meet at greet 6pm\nSunday- easy bike ~2hrs\, + run off\nMonday- Sand hollow day with medium intensity endurance ride (3hours) + run off + OWS\nTuesday- Pool Swim + Long ride (Snow Canyon/Veyo)\nWednesday – Hike at Bryce Canyon\, overnight in Brian Head\nThursday – Parowan Climb and return to St George. Parowan is a 24k climb to 10\,000ft with an average grade of 6%. You can read more about it here.\nFriday- Pool swim and long run (or easy ride)\nSaturday – Long bike 3-4 hours\, OWS

SUMMARY:HEAL Ottawa IM Recon Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Top 5 reasons to do a Race Recon Weekend! \n1  Course familiarization. Learn the layout\, including turns and technical sections. This will reduce the risk of surprises on race day. It will also help you identify landmarks that can help with pacing and metal preparation. Knowing what to expect can alleviate some stress and helps you plan better. \n2  Pacing strategy. You can practice race day effort levels in real time conditions. This can help you understand where you may need to conserve energy (depending on wind / weather elements) and where you may be able to push. \n3  Nutrition + hydration strategy. You can test your fueling strategy on the course. \n4  Mental preparation. Training on the course can help reduce pre-race anxiety by knowing what to expect. You can also identify challenging sections that may require some more mental focus. \n5  Group support. Gain insights from others who have raced the Ironman distance before. Share motivation and build camaraderie. Training with others that share your goal is a great way to stay motivated. \nIdeal for those doing the Ottawa Ironman in August.\nFriday June 6 \n4pm- Meet & Greet & Swim. We will review the swim course\, talk swim strategy and swim part of the course (weather/water dependent) \nSaturday June 7\n8am- Swim from Britannia beach – We will swim ~1 loop of swim course(~45 min) (weather/water dependent) \n9:00am- After a quick change meet for a ride of approximately 70k reviewing 1 loop of the bike course on Kichi Zibi Mikan parkway. 30 min run off the bike \n2:30pm- Immediately following the workout we’ll meet to discuss the course\, talk race strategy\, long course nutrition and have a Q & A to better prepare you for your race.\n5pm- Group dinner(not included in fee) \nSunday June 8\n8am- Hill ride in Gatineau Park + Run off the bike

Qualified officials also receive all their officiating gear and a complimentary Triathlon Ontario membership each year they officiate. \n  \n  \nCourse Details\nProvincial Triathlon Official Level 1 (PTO1)\nSaturday\, June 14th\, 6:00am – 2:00pm \n  \nCost: $25 (Refunded on Qualification) \nTo bring: Pen\, note paper \nCandidates will need to complete the classroom session as well as job shadowing at two (2) provincially-sanctioned races in order to receive their qualification.  Candidates can choose to job shadow at any race\, however this course is scheduled so that interested candidates may complete their first job shadowing at the Barrie Triathlon the following day. \nCandidates will be provided a rule book and some nifty Officials’ swag. \n  \nRegistration\nRegistration is online with CCN.  Click here to register. \n  \nWho should take this course?\nRace volunteers: If you’re the kind of person who volunteers at races\, why not so so in a professional capacity? \nFamily members: If you’re driving to races anyway with family members involved in the sport\, consider being right on the course as an official. \nLocal Organizing Committee members: You can really help your organization put on races by learning the official’s job. \nCoaches: This course is also recommended for coaches: not only is it valuable professional development\, but it gets you credit towards NCCP certification. \nClub members: Qualified officials are valuable members of any triathlon club\, who can be a great help to other members with rules and qualification questions. \nParatriathletes\, handlers\, and coaches: Paratriathlon has a lot of rules. If Ontario is to run paratriathlon races\, we need officials trained in para. This course is the first step. \nMotorcyclists: Like to ride? Moto officials ride around the bike course\, looking out for athlete safety and the occasional drafting violation. It’s a great way to spend some time on your motorcycle while supporting a great sport. \n  \nWhat’s officiating like?\nOfficials start as Secondary Officials\, officiating different positions to help the Head Official.  Secondary officials might be on the mount/dismount line\, starting the swim\, watching for safety in transition\, or on the back of a motorcycle on the bike course. \nOfficials answer a lot of questions from athletes\, usually starting with “Do I have to…”  They help athletes find where they need to be\, solve problems\, and try to keep the race running smoothly.  Officials represent Triathlon Ontario\, and work with Race Directors and race staff to make sure races are safe and fair. \nOfficials often travel to races\, which means some very early mornings.  They often stay in town for two-day events.  Although they can choose which races they’d like to do\, officials are expected to officiate at at least a couple of races each year. \n  \nQuestions?\nFor questions about this course\, please contact Mike Mahoney\, technical@triathlonontario.com.

SUMMARY:Sunrise Swim for Strength
DESCRIPTION:The Sunrise Swim for Strength is a non-competitive swim at sunrise that is hosted by our local triathlon club\, TriMuskoka\, as a fundraiser for the MSCLE Project.  The idea for the sunrise swim stemmed from a combination of the Kona Coffee Boat at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii\, along with the charitable fundraising run held that same weekend\, named the infamous Underpants Run. \nThree times a week our club members swim on the 70.3 swim course as the sun rises\, and it is always a breathtaking sight.  We wanted to share this incredible early morning experience and raise some money for our MSCLE project\, It is also a way to thank the athletes who make the effort to come to our small community in the middle of Ontario to take on the Muskoka 70.3 course that is aptly named the Beauty and the Beast.
