History
The Ontario Games Program started in 1970 in Etobicoke as a showcase for amateur sport. They have now become Ontario’s largest multi-sport event, including both team and individual sports.
The Games take place every two years. Qualification takes place in the preceding year’s Triathlon Ontario Youth Cup (14-15). There is one final “Wild Card” race in the year of competition. Athletes must be either 15 or 16 years of age as of December 31st during the year of OSG competition to be eligible to qualify/compete.
The Ontario Summer Games is the first Games experience and an important part of the Triathlon Ontario provincial development pathway.
Objectives
The Ontario Summer Games encourage as many people as possible to play organized sports, help Ontario’s development level athletes pursue excellence, and promote increased tourism and economic development.
The Games are an ideal opportunity for Triathlon Ontario to provide a draft legal competitive race environment within the Province, preparing athletes for further development in draft legal racing and beyond.

2022 Ontario Summer Games
The 2022 Ontario Summer Games will be held in Mississauga, July 21-23. Races will consist of a Mixed Team Relay and a two-heat cumulative Super Sprint Individual race.
Location: Jack Darling Park
Due to the cancelation of the 2020 Ontario Summer Games, those that were pre-qualified have been added to the 2022 Games. This allows athletes who were not able to race in 2020 to experience the Ontario Summer Games.
Eligible Age Groups: 15-16, 17-18 as of December 31 2022
Available Spots: 24 females and 24 males aged 15-16, 12 females and 12 males ages 17-18
The Mixed Team Relay will be on Friday, July 22 and consists of teams of four athletes – male, female, male, female – racing consecutively. Each athlete races the entire course: 300m swim, 5km bike, and 1.5km run before tagging their teammate. Both age groups will be combined in this event and race as one group for team medals. Triathlon Ontario will select the teams and attempt to make the teams as fair as possible.
The individual race will take place on Saturday, July 23 and consists of two heats of a Super Sprint distance, 300m swim, 5km bike, and 1.5km run. The times of each heat will be added together to determine the winner. Both age groups will race in the same heats but results will be separated out and medals awarded for each age group.

Ontario Summer Games Format
- Individual Event Is Draft Legal
All athletes will need to be draft legal certified prior to the Games in order to compete. As per its Provincial Development Program, Triathlon Ontario believes by offering more opportunities and incentive for youth and juniors to race draft legal races, Ontario’s depth of high performance and elite athletes will increase and the pathway to future provincial, national and even international success will be more clear for athletes, parents, coaches and clubs. The event will be two heats of a Super Sprint distance with a short break in between. The times of each heat will be added to determine the winners.
- Mixed Team Relay Event
The Mixed Team Relay event returns, the only difference being the order of the athletes is now male/female/male/female. The format has gained in popularity on the National and International stage and is now an Olympic event. Triathlon Ontario believes in the credibility of the event and the Ontario Summer Games is a perfect venue to provide Ontario’s youth and juniors with this development opportunity. The format will be such that each team is made up of two females and two males. Each athlete will complete a Super Sprint distance swim/bike/run course before tagging the next teammate who will then in turn, complete the course and tag the next teammate and so on. The teams will be selected by Triathlon Ontario. The objective will be to create as even teams as possible for the relays.
