Toronto Triathlon Festival to Host Short Course Provincials and Cup Series

Cup Series and Sprint and Standard Provincial Championships Returning to Toronto

– TTF to be one of four stops on the 2016 Elite/U23 and Junior Cup Series –

February 1, 2016Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced today the Toronto Triathlon Festival will serve as host of the Sprint and Standard (Olympic) distance Provincial Championships on July 10, 2016. The event will also serve as host of one of four stops on the 2016 edition of the Elite/U23 and Junior Cup Series.

Provincial Championships
The fastest men and women in the province will do battle in both the Sprint and Standard distance on July 10th to see gets bragging rights and the tittle of Provincial Champion.

The rules are simple, who ever crosses the line first in each gender in each distance wins the tittle. Participants must be a Triathlon Ontario member at the time of competition to win the Championship.

Winners of the Provincial Championships will receive trophies at the Annual Awards Banquet.

Please note, there are no qualification spots for the 2017 Sprint or Standard Distance World Championships at this event. There will be 10 automatic qualification spots at the National Championships being held in Ottawa on the July 23/24th weekend. Cup Series
This will be the second year for both the Elite/U23 and Junior Cup Series. Both Series are draft legal competitions created to give draft legal juniors, U23 and Elites an opportunity to compete and develop their skill sets locally in Ontario.

Both the Elite/U23 and Junior Cup Series will consist of a best three of four results format counting in the final point tally. The remaining three venues will be announced shortly. Participants must be Triathlon Ontario members, be draft legal certified and for those athletes 24 years or older, must have Triathlon Ontario Elite status.

Winners of the individual events will receive medals and the winners of the overall Series will receive individual trophies as well as have their names engraved on the permanent Series trophies, soon to be displayed at Triathlon Ontario’s home at the Milton Velodrome. Triathlon Ontario will also be offering a $2,000 cash purse for the top three male and females in the overall Series final standings.
