Triathlon Ontario Announces Hosts and Venues for its Provincial Championships

– National Qualifying venues for ITU Worlds also confirmed –

January 25, 2017 Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced today the venues for the 2017 Triathlon Ontario Provincial Championships and confirmed the venues for 2018 ITU World Championship qualifying events in Ontario. The hosts are as follows:

Winter Triathlon – Feb 4th
Hosted by Winterlude Triathlon, enjoy winter in the Nation’s Capital with an 8km skate on the Rideau Canal, an 8km XC ski and a 5km run.


Indoor Triathlon – March 5th
Triathlon Ontario and the Toronto Triathlon Club have partnered to host the 2017 Indoor Provincial Championships. See how far you can go in the pool (15 min), on the spin bike (15 min) and around a running track (15 min).


National Triathlon Championships – June 17/18th
Celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday in style by racing in the 2017 Canadian Triathlon Championships and CAMTRI American Cup. A new heats and finals format will see short and fast racing for Elites & Jrs.

The event will serve as Nationals for Aquathlon, Elites, Age Groupers, and a new Club and University National Championships. There will be 10 ITU qualification spots for both Sprint and Standard Triathlon as well as Aquathlon.


Cross Triathlon – Race #1 June 17th, Race #2 Aug 12th
The Cross Provincial title will be determined over two races this year, both Element Racing events. The first one being XTERRA ‘Mine Over Matter’ and the second one being XTERRA Parry Sound.


Sprint & Standard Triathlon (non-drafting) – July 23rd
The Toronto Triathlon Festival will be hosting both short course non drafting Provincial Championships as athletes experience the thrill of speeding through Toronto’s inner city highways & waterfront.


Draft Legal Provincials – August 12th
After a successful move to Welland in 2016, Triathlon Ontario’s signature event, the Draft Legal Provincial Championships returns and adds a new exciting team event format to its Age Grouper wave.


‘Du-the-Double’ Duathlon Challenge – August 12/13
MultiSport Canada’s Bracebridge Weekend is set to host the popular ‘Du-the-Double’ Duathlon Challenge where duathletes compete in both events for a chance to win a $500 cash prize. The Standard Duathlon will also offer 2 ITU qualification spots.


Club Championships – August 26
MultiSport Canada’s Wasaga Beach will host Triathlon Ontario’s largest single day competition, the Club Championships. Clubs of all sizes can compete for a prize purse of $2,000 and to have their names etched on the Crystal Cup forever.


Youth Club Championships – Sept 9th
MultiSport Canada’s Lakeside KOS will be the sight of the second running of the Youth Club Championships. Athletes in the 12-13 and 14-15 age groups will compete for bragging rights and get their club’s name immortalized on the trophy.


Long Course Triathlon – Sept 17th
REV3’s Niagara Falls Barrelman and its famous backdrop will serve as the Long Course Provincial Championship and will offer 2 ITU qualification spots.


Sprint & Standard Duathlon – Oct 29th
The most unique venue in the province, the Overdrive Race and Relay Series, is set to host both Sprint and Standard Duathlon Provincials.

This will be the first time a draft legal Sprint Duathlon has been offered in Ontario and both distances will offer 2 ITU qualification spots.

Provincial Championship titles are awarded to the top overall male and female Triathlon Ontario members.

The 2018 ITU Sprint and Standard Triathlon World Championships venue is the Gold Coast, Australia and the 2018 ITU Multisport World Championships venue is located in Odense, Denmark. Dates have yet to be announced for either event.
