Triathlon Ontario Begins Pre-production on Next Online Con-Ed Coaching Courses

 – Swim, Bike & Run courses to begin filming next month –

 

July 9th, 2014Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced today that it has begun pre-production of its next three installments of its popular, ground breaking online continuing education coaching courses.  Course outlines have been finalized and filming is set to begin next month for the highly anticipated Swim, Bike and Run Technique courses.  These installments will supplement the “Exercise Physiology for Triathletes”, taught by internationally renowned physiologist Dr. Greg Wells, which was launched earlier this year.

In partnership with Dr. Wells, Triathlon Ontario’s premiere series of online con-ed courses targets NCCP Community Level trained triathlon coaches that are seeking to further develop their professional skill set.  The series of courses will be comprised of a number of subjects such as Exercise Physiology, Psychology, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Transitions and Sport Specific Technique (Swim, Bike and Run).  Each subject heading will consist of 6-10 hours of content divided into approximately 45 minute segments.  Coaches will be provided with access to watch the instructional videos and will be required to complete online quizzes.

Swim Technique

The Swim Technique course will be taught by swim coach Mike Rutledge.  Mike has over 30 years of experience in the area of competitive swimming both as an athlete and coach.  As an age group athlete Mike was heavily involved in competitive swimming at the National and International level, competing as part of the Canada Games Team and Olympic Development Team.  Mike earned a full scholarship to Texas A&M University where he competed as a competitive swimmer for four years.  Mike has also been Provincial Champion as a Masters athlete in both cycling and swimming and also owns the current Canadian Record in the 800m free for swimmers aged 35-39.

As a coach Mike has spent over 20 years involved both swimming and triathlon for age group and masters athletes.  He has regularly lead swimmers to Provincial and National championships and continues to produce athletes that can reach that potential.

Bike Technique

The Bike Technique course will be taught by cycle coach Ming-Chang Tsai of Toronto based cycling club Real Deal/Gears-WASPCam.  Ming has been coaching for over 15 years in rowing, cycling, running, and triathlon and is a NCCP Level-3 certified coach.  He started as a competitive runner in high school and picked up rowing while in university and eventually raced across the world with the National team at World Cups, World Championships, Asian Championships, and Asian Games.  After his elite rowing career ended, he began racing Multisport and has represented Canada on several Age Group World Championship teams in Duathlon and Triathlon.

Ming will be completing his PhD in Exercise Sciences at the University of Toronto this fall; his research interests are developing mathematical models to quantify human performance by estimating individual’s anaerobic/aerobic components. Ming frequently presents at sport science conferences in Europe and North America, while keeping up-to-date on the latest research in nutrition and training methodologies to improve his coaching.  Ming also holds a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering.?

Run Technique

The Run Technique course will be taught by run coach Kevin Smith, President of Marathon Dynamics, Inc.  Marathon Dynamics is a Toronto-based company that has provided customized training plans and personal coaching to thousands of runners at every level, for over 15 years.

Kevin is an NCCP-Certified Running Coach with over 20 years experience, and has been a competitive runner for 30 years, with Personal Bests of 30:54 (10K), 1:12 (Half Marathon) and 2:42 (Marathon, at 42 years old).  He is a top-ranked, 6-time Ontario Masters (40+) Champion, at distances ranging from 1500m to Marathon, and continues to compete at the highest level as a masters athlete in his mid-40’s.

Kevin has appeared frequently as a popular media running expert: as seen on TSN, Life Network, Rogers Cable, CFTO, and at numerous corporate seminars and race expos; as read in Globe & Mail and National Post, iRun and Canadian Running; and as heard on CFRB Radio.
