Triathlon Ontario Launches First of a Series of Online Con-Ed Coaching Courses

January 27, 2014 – Triathlon Ontario is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Dr. Greg Wells of the Wells Group to develop and produce triathlon’s premiere series of online continuing education courses targeting NCCP Community Level trained triathlon coaches.

The on-line courses will be comprised of a number of subjects such as Exercise Physiology, Psychology, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Transitions and Sport Specific Technique (Swim, Bike and Run). Each subject heading will consist of 6-10 hours of content divided into approximately 45 minute segments. Coaches will be provided with access to watch the instructional videos and will be required to complete online quizzes. Upon successful completion of the entire course and corresponding quizzes, coaches will receive a certificate of completion from Triathlon Ontario which they can use to market to their skill sets to their clients.

The program will be developed in stages beginning today with Exercise Physiology for triathletes, which contains 10 lectures. Coaches must first complete the NCCP Community Level Course in order to register for the Continuing Education courses. In addition to Dr. Wells, experts in each subject matter will be selected to deliver the content to students/coaches. The next topic, Swim Technique is currently under construction.

About Dr. Greg Wells

Dr. Wells is a scientist and physiologist specializing in improving health and performance and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education at the University of Toronto. He is also an Associate Scientist in Physiology and Experimental Medicine at the Hospital for Sick Children. Previously, Dr. Wells served as the Director of Sport Science at the Canadian Sport Centre where has had the opportunity to work with dozens of athletes who have won medals at Commonwealth Games, World Championships and the Olympic Games.

Dr. Wells was the host of the Gemini-Award winning “Superbodies” segments for Canada’s Olympic TV broadcast and the on-camera sport science and sport medicine analyst for the CTV Broadcast Consortium during the 2010 Vancouver and London 2012 Olympic Games. He has also appeared as a subject matter expert on ABC, CBC, CTV, TSN and the Discovery Channel as well as the author of “Superbodies: Peak Performance Secrets from the World’s Best Athletes.”
