Youth Cup Standings Update

– With one event left to go, lots of intrigue still to be played out –

August 25, 2014 – The Dunrobin KOS played host to an important second-to-last stop on the 2014 edition of the Triathlon Ontario Youth Cup standings. With both divisions in action, the leader boards saw some significant movement, setting up for an exciting last stop at the Lakeside KOS.

Girls 14 & 15
Erika Rankin made a statement by taking her third straight victory in the Series over the weekend, moving her up in the Series to third place overall. Ella Kubas had another podium finish, grabbing second place on the day and putting her just ahead of Rankin in the overall Series. Series leader Sara Borrens aka “Miss Consistency”, took third place at Dunrobin, giving her a seven point lead. With one stop to go, first place is still wide open as the best four finishes of each athlete will be used to calculate the final totals.

Boys 14 & 15
Kyle Caie took advantage of Series leader Liam Donnelly sitting this one out by winning in Ottawa and taking the overall lead by six points over Donnelly. Nathan Gurrin-Smith finished second on the day, further solidifying his third place standing overall, just three points back of Donnelly. Thomas MacIntosh rounded out the podium at Dunrobin by finishing in third. Like the girls, the boys winner will be decided on the last day at Lakeside in mid-September.

Girls 12 & 13
In this best three of four results, Emma Young locked up the Youth Cup Series Championship by winning her third straight victory and earning the maximum 75 points from three races on Sunday. Isabella Mastroianni came in second place at Dunrobin and is currently sitting in second place in the Series with 57 points. Madeline Ongena grabbed third place, helping her to move up the Series leader board. Congratulations to Emma for being our first of four Youth Cup champions this year!

Boys 12 & 13
Emma’s brother Ian is making a strong case to get his name engraved on the trophy next to Emma’s. Ian came in second on Sunday, behind the hard charging Tristen Jones who took his second straight Series victory. Ian sits in first place with a 15 point lead over Jones with one more stop to go for Jones to try to overtake Young. Newcomer to the Series, Kenneth Lowther rounded out Sunday’s podium with a third place finish. Looks like another division will be coming down to the wire at Lakeside. Best of luck to everyone competing for glory!
