Action Packed Weekend Sees Ontario's Joanna Brown Defend Her National Title

June 20, 2017 – This past weekend, the Ottawa International Triathlon played host to Triathlon Canada’s National Championships as well as Triathlon Ontario’s Cup Series. This was the first time in nearly 30 years, that all of the country’s top ranked Elites competed at Canada’s National Championship.

Elite Race
This weekend’s Elite race signaled a new era for the National Championship. Elites, U23 and Juniors all raced together on Saturday in super sprint heats in an effort to qualify for Sunday’s finals.

Ontario’s Joanna Brown edged out Paula Findlay, successfully defending her National title, while Guelph’s Dominika Jamnicky rounded out the podium to take third.

Congrats to both Ella Kubas and Teagan Shapansky, two young up and coming Ontario juniors, for qualifying for the A finals.

In the women’s B finals, Ontario had two U23 women reach the podium, Danae Morris and Meagan Adams, second and third respectively.

Cup Series
This weekend was the first stop in Triathlon Ontario’s Cup Series for Elite/U23, Junior and both Youth Cups (12-13, 14-15). Due to the unique format for Elite/U23 and Juniors, series standings were determined by using the times in the qualifying heats against fellow Ontario athletes. Results can be found on the website Elite/U23 Cup and Junior Cup.

The 14-15 Youth Cup was also a 2018 Ontario Summer Games qualifier. Five spots were available for both male and female Ontario athletes Results for both the 12-13 and 14-15 Youth Cup divisions can be found on the website Youth Cup.
