February 10, 2016Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, once again issued the “Du-the-Double” Duathlon Challenge. The “Du-the-Double” Duathlon Challenge consists of Age Groupers competing in both the Sprint and Standard Distance Duathlon Provincial Championships on July 16/17, 2016 at the Recharge With Milk MultiSport Canada Gravenhurst Weekend. The Standard Duathlon event will also serve as a National Qualifier with two automatic spots per age division and gender.

The rules are simple, athletes must be Triathlon Ontario members and must compete as Age Groupers in their respective age groups. Points will be awarded based on finishing position for both events within the top 10 of each age group. Athletes will be awarded 100 points for first place, 90 points for second, 80 points for third and so on until 10 points for 10th place.

The top female and male after both events’ points have been added will win $500 each.

Provincials and Qualification Spots
Both Duathlon events will serve as Triathlon Ontario Provincial Championships. Participants must be Triathlon Ontario members prior to the start of the race to be eligible for the Championships. The overall winners in each distance in each gender will be recognized as Provincial Champions and celebrated at the Annual Awards Banquet.

The Standard Duathlon event will also have two automatic national qualification spots for each gender in each age division for the honour of representing Canada on home soil at the 2017 ITU Age Group Duathlon World Championships in Penticton, British Columbia. Since the Sprint Duathlon event at World Championships are draft legal, all qualification events must also be draft legal. Therefore, there will be no National Qualifiers in Ontario in 2016 for the Sprint Duathlon Distance for the 2017 ITU Age Group Duathlon World Championships.
