Venues Announced for Elite/U23 and Junior Cups

– Provincial Championships anchors Series with new venue and date –

March 1, 2016Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, has announced the venues for its 2016 Elite/U23 and Junior Draft Legal Cup Series. Both Cup Series will consist of four races with results from the best three races counting to the overall final standings. Both Juniors and Elite/U23 athletes will compete for glory and their names to be forever etched on the prestigious Series trophies. Elite/U23 athletes will also compete for a $2,000 prize purse offered by Triathlon Ontario.

The objective of the Cup Series is to provide developing athletes an opportunity to race locally, developing their skill sets in a draft legal format.

Race 1
On June 26th the two Series will debut in one Canada’s most southern communities, Belle River. Its flat and fast in this part of the country and a number of course improvements have been made this year by organizers.

Race 2
The Series moves up the 401 to Toronto Triathlon Festival on the lakefront, July 10th. Athletes will once again get a chance to move faster on the DVP than most commuters do during rush hour. This year’s event features a new finishing line just outside of transition.

Race 3
The Nation’s capital plays host to National Championships for both Elite/U23 and Juniors. The eyes of the country will be downtown Ottawa on the July 23/24th weekend as it plays host to one of the premier events in the country. Extra points will be available due to the depth of field and prestige of the event.

Race 4
Both Series’ finale ends with a bang at Triathlon Ontario’s signature event, Draft Legal Provincials. This year there is a new venue and date. On August 27th, the International Flatwater Centre in Welland will be the site for one of the most spectator-friendly venues in the country. From the comfort of the stadium seating spectators will be able to see 100% of the swim, 30% of the bike and about 50% of the run with the finishing chute situated directly in front of the stands. If we have another three-man sprint to the finish like last year, the noise could be deafening! Extra points will be available as well.

Registration for Provincial Championship will be open soon. Venues for the Youth Cup Series will also be announced in the coming days.
