September 21, 2016Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, announced the winners of the 2016 Long Course Provincial Championship and Long Course Series.

On Sunday morning the Sketchers Performance Niagara Falls Barrelman was host once again of the Long Course Provincial Championship and finale to the Triathlon Ontario Long Course Provincial Series.

Provincial Championships
Alex Vanderlinden headed into the run with just a 10 second lead over second place but put in a solid effort on the run to expand his lead and win the Provincial title by nearly two minutes.

Miranda Tomenson used the day’s fastest bike split to position herself to take the Provincial title. Tomenson was second across the line but was the first Triathlon Ontario member, solidifying her win.

Congrats to Alex and Miranda!

Long Course Provincial Series
2016 was the second year of the Long Course Series and despite losing an event from last year, participation was still strong at 367 Triathlon Ontario members earning points in the competition. Points were awarded for top 20 finishes in age groups, with the best two of four results counting.

Age Group Women
Kristen King built up a strong enough lead after the first three events of the Series to have enough to hold on to win the Series with 688 points. Mellen Gorman gave it everything she had in the final event to challenge for the win but just came up a little short, finishing with 653 points.

Masters Women
Jennifer Knowles used a couple of first place finishes in the first two events to ensure a Series victory with 731 points over defending champion Lia Kutzscher, who finished in a close second with 696 points.

Age Group Men
In our tightest race, Dany Malley edged out Peter Newhook by a mere 6 points to take his first Series win with 731 points to Peter’s 725 points.

Masters Men
Luke Ehgoetz used the extra points at Muskoka and the finale in Niagara to his advantage as that was the difference maker over second place Joe Gati. Ehgoetz finished with 769 points and Gati finished with 650 points.

Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to all those that participated and helped make the Series another great success.
