DU283 is a series of duathlons totaling 283km. Championed by Sault Ste. Marie Police Officer Sonny Spina, the events will take place throughout the month of May culminating with a sanctioned duathlon in Sault Ste. Marie on September 27, 2020. As a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, Sonny has dedicated his life to serving the people of Sault Ste. Marie. For 16 years and counting, Sonny has worn badge number 283 with pride and continues to work towards improving the quality of life for all the residents of the Algoma District.

Alongside the preliminary duathlons, taking place at local high schools, Sonny and the DU283 team will connect with students and community partners, promoting physical and mental well-being. Both physical and mental health are equally important for overall well-being. As Chair of the Algoma Family Services Foundation Board of Directors, Sonny Spina has committed all funds raised through DU283 to AFS Foundation, ensuring all monies collected in support of youth mental health remain local. Through awareness campaigns and fundraising initiatives, DU283 will raise funds and work to bring clinicians to Sault Ste. Marie, ensuring every infant, child, youth, adult, and family will get the mental health care they need. With your support, we can continue to inspire hope and wellness within our community.
